WORK
My work is highly based on becoming a mode of self-defense; to both portray and produce new modes in which I shield myself from the calamities of the world. It is in response to the way I was raised, in which I had to grow up faster than most, looking after myself. I struggle with the maternal and paternal parts of myself, as I unravel the twisted bitterness from the past.
What ways can I use my chosen material to convey an imaginary force field that protects the most tender parts of myself? Glass, being transparent but opaque, fragile yet strong — include the dualities that I explore when I create. There is a wholeness with my work, with opposites that balance one another out.
The physical form of my pieces are mystical and spiritual, there is a deep connection to culture and how that is a big part of identifying oneself, which allows the works to form into something almost ritualistic.
